First ever, Town Hall Meeting to discuss the underage drinking issues in North Smithfield. Hosted by the Task Force and facilitated by John Mattson,the first of its kind meeting will offer a forum to discuss in an open, honest dialogue, what we, as community representatives, can do to promote positive choices, as well as how we can impose consistent consequences for offenders.
Invitees will be selected from the community.

The North Smithfield Substance Abuse Task force is a coalition of voluntary members of our community, representing both the private and the public sectors, concerned with the development, implementation and advocacy of effective programs as they pertain to the Rhode Island Substance Abuse Prevention Act and any other pertinent substance abuse prevention funds.

Programs conducted by the Prevention Task Force to provide awareness of substance abuse:
- Coordinate Server Training Education with the NS Police
- Monthly Seminar series: Educational workshops with guest speakers
- Smoking Cessation Program- in cooperation with the Dept. of Health
- Youth Leadership/ SADD (students against destructive decisions) activities
- Senior Information and Life Skills workshops- From RX news to depression
- Parent to Parent Workshops- helping each other make better choices
- Juvenile Hearing Board- chance for youth to learn from offenses
- Working with Brown University on a pilot program (pdf brochure)
